Andy Kaufman and the Big Enormous You-Know-What

Andy Kaufman
What a strange fellow
Misunderstood genius, its true
I understand him
to a point.
He was a true artist
eccentric, brilliant
cared for his audience.
Sorry about the title
I couldnt think about anything else
and thought that sounded cool.
Maybe Andy is still alive
if you look maybe you can find him
but good luck
I doubt it.
Now, since youve been so kind
As to read this monstrosity
That i pretend is a poem
Im going to take you all out
for milk and cookies
but not really.

WHERE IS ANDY KAUFMAN?

Some people are speculating
As to whether a certain person might still be alive.
It seems to me
They are speculating to accumulate.*

Others are standing still
By the side of a grave
Mourning the outer layer
Of a certain person:
They are standing sadly by,
Stuck without a smile.

But still others will wear a smile, a far from secret smile,
For they have seen
That it is not necessary to be certain
About a certain person:
Only be certain about your fond gut reaction
To his own inviting smile -
A slightly sly suggestion
To bend a few rules,
Be lenient with yourself,
Just Play.

For even if he is gone,
He abounds in time.
Zappologists at least
Can say that he, with other friends and heroes,
Is still flickering into being
On another TV station
On a different channel.
Just keep searching
Until you find it:
Just Play.

(*Note: this is not necessarily an insult! Don't be offended…)

J.B. Note: BRAVO, MS. DOWNE! Andy would be PLEASED, I'm sure.

I USED TO KNOW A MAN, THERE WAS A MAN I KNEW--WHO WAS DEEPLY LOVED BY MANY--BUT UNDERSTOOD BY FEW.--HIS EYES WERE BRIGHT--AND HIS SMILE WAS LIKE SUNSHINE--HIS FACE ALWAYS REFLECTED--ALL THE LOVE HE FELT INSIDE.--HE MADE ALL THE PEOPLE LAUGH--WITH EVERYTHING THAT HE DID--BECAUSE MAKING PEOPLE HAPPY--WAS THE REASON THAT HE LIVED.--HE WAS CLEARLY A GENIUS--FAR AHEAD OF HIS TIME--A COMPLICATED PERSON--WITH A COMPLICATED MIND.--TO DEFINE HIM IS IMPOSSIBLE--YET MANY PEOPLE TRIED--AND THE WORLD WAS CHANGED FOREVER--ON THE DAY THAT HE "DIED". NO REALLY.
