Andy Kaufman Makes TV Top 100 Moments!
Earlier this month, VH1 began airing a program,"The 100 Moments That Rocked TV." They gave Andy Kaufman a ranking of #91 for his appearence on SNL doing the Mighty Mouse routine. Stephen from Foo Fighters and Norah Jones spoke about the piece and Molly Shannon from SNL introduced Andy as "Brilliant, daring, hilarious, unpredictable." It's good to see people are still recognizing him and giving him his proper recognition! Thanks to Kevin R. for providing the story and much of the copy!

AndyLives.org, the Second Coming!
Recent rumours appear to be bearing fruit! The original Andy Lives website appears to be in the process of making a comeback! Some of you might remember that the original ended unceremoniously a few years ago (although pieces of the old website were archived elsewhere...see below). Shortly, thereafter, the website was hijacked for a time to promote porn links. But last August, someone calling themselves "Rex Rude"* bought the domain and put up a nice homepage that seems to promise a return to the spirit of the original Andy Lives website. Good luck to the new owner(s) as we anxiously await the debut of Andy Lives, Part 2!!!!

Andy Kaufman Debuts in a Wrestling Video Game!
As of next month, you can wrestle as Andy Kaufman on your Nintendo, Gameboy, and various other game outlets!! Acclaim Entertainment will release Legends of Wrestling 2 boasting a whopping 65 of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Players can pit Andy Kaufman in matches with any of these other legends in a vari
ety of battle matches. Some of Andy's opponents include Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, and, of course, Jerry "The King" Lawler (PAYBACK TIME, DUDES!). And get this....each wrestler includes the ability to appear in three different costumes! There are also interviews of the real wrestlers in the game (here's a sample of one with Jerry "The King" Lawler). A sequel to a very popular earlier version, this time out the video game bursts with "larger wrestlers, livelier crowds, and more damage and bleeding" according to one review. I have not been able to locate a sample of what the Andy figure will look like, but rest assured, when I do, I'll include it here. Click the pic for more pics and a game review.

Update 11/9/02:

We finally have a still from the game! Click on the image above to see it. In addition, I've superimposed a blown up portion of Andy's head to show, indeed, lots of bleeding! Anyway, what's with the pecs?

Update 12/3/02:

Steroid Andy,
revealed!

Update 12/31/02:

In an email from "Kevin R.":

I read your update on the video game w/ Andy in it. I got it last night. Good game. But you should probably note on your site, that you can only play as Andy when you choose Jerry Lawler and compete in the "career mode". Then, after you beat him, go to the "Shop" on the main menu and you can pick Andy as your wrestler. Thought this might be some useful advice since I'm pretty sure most of your visitors w/ a game console will pick it up.

Recently, the Kaufman's own website for selling Andy Kaufman books has decided to pack it up. Though we are disappointed to see it end, CAKS applauds the family for having published these books, a real treat for Andy fans around the globe. Books will still available for the time being through at least Amazon.com, so pick them up while you can. And even if you already have the books, consider buying more to donate them to your favorite library or to give as gifts to all your friends.

The Next Generation of Film - A Program Designed for Students at The Walter Reade Theater

Saturday, October 19, 2002 3:00 PM

Larry Cohen, The Politics of Horror and the Horror of Politics

From his astonishing debut with the 1972, "Bone" through his classic, "It's Alive" films and his nervy 80s films, "Q - The Winged Serpent" and "The Stuff," Larry Cohen has followed in the footsteps of Sam Fuller as that rarity of a politically engaged director of pulp fiction. He will discuss
his life and work, and, best of all, his future projects. He will conduct a discussion and Q&A followed by a screening of his 1975 cult possession cult, "God Told Me To" which features the late Andy Kaufman in his first motion picture role.

All tickets are $9.00

The Walter Reade Theater is located at 165 West 65th Street, plaza level (between Broadway and Amsterdam) NYC

AndyLives.org Lives!
Thanks to an email I received today from a mysterious writer known only as "Kevin R", the old AndyLives.org website has been unearthed and appears to be in fairly good condition!* For those of you who wonder about the often talked "legendary" website, this is your chance to see what the hubbub was all about. It might be interesting for some to note that an early version of CAKS originated from the murky mud pond of the AndyLives forum where J. Brandy, the original founder of CAKS, made his debut.

And now I present to you, the holy grail of recent Andy fan lore.

Note that some of the graphics are missing and the original forum has been dismantled. Fortunately, many messages are still available for perusal by page number.

Wrestling with Andy Kaufman
If you missed the AK birthday party in February, maybe you can catch this gig!

HOLLYWOOD -The American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre presents four special events in April with in person guests. On Wednesday, April 24th at 7:30 PM is a double feature of documentaries on the late comedian Andy Kaufman and his fascination with professional wrestling. There will be a discussion between films with the filmmakers. All guests are subject to their availability. All screenings are at the newly renovated Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the historic Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Las Palmas) in Hollywood. The Wednesday, April 24th program begins at 7:30 PM with a Double Feature of two documentaries detailing comic enfant terrible, Andy Kaufman's bizarre obsession regarding all things wrestling. There will be a discussion between films with Andy Kaufman alumni and filmmakers, Lynne Margulies, Johnny Legend and Bob Zmuda. First up is I'M FROM HOLLYWOOD, (60 min. Joe Lynne Productions, 1992) directed by Lynne Margulies and Joe Orr. Andy Kaufman's bizarre descent into the world of professional wrestling, including his escalating feud with Jerry Lawler and his challenge to amateur women wrestlers everywhere, is chronicled in this very funny documentary that asks the question - was Andy bent on ruining his Hollywood career or engineering one of the most elaborate show biz put-ons ever? Next on the same bill is MY BREAKFAST WITH BLASSIE, (1984, Lautrec/Legend Productions, 60 min.) directed by Linda Lautrec and Johnny Legend. Andy Kaufman meets legendary wrestler Freddie Blassie at Sambos Restaurant and intellectual discourse on wrestling, cleanliness and picking up girls follows in this merciless spoof of the arthouse hit, MY DINNER WITH ANDRE. PLUS 22 minutes of clips of rare Kaufman appearances and performances. Discussion between films with filmmakers and Kaufman alumni Lynne Margulies, Johnny Legend and BobZmuda..

THE PROGRAM IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.# # #

Andy Kaufman Birthday Party
Last February, Wally Wingert, famous AK impersonator, threw a part for Andy at the Silent Movie Theater in Hollywood. The festivities included a screening of Andy's 1983 PBS special "Soundstage", an appearance by Lynne Margulies and Little Wendy, and Wally performing Andy's "Mighty Mouse"! (For more info, take a spin through Wally's website.) CAKS caught up with Wally to ask him a few questions about the event: Little Wendy and Wally
Little Wendy and Wally
Wally Andy and Assistant Do you think you will make this an annual gig? How much "Andy" did you do?

When I do the next Andy party, I either want to do his greatest bits (something I would edit together myself or with the help of Lynne) or his Midnight Special. I just may do it again next year. I only did "Mighty Mouse."

I understand Lynne Margulies and Little Wendy were the guests of honor. Did they perform in some way?

Lynne was the invited guest of honor, who was actually with Andy during the whole Soundstage experience. Little Wendy was a wonderful added bonus as she was invited by Lynne. Lynne couldn't stay long because she had plans, but Little Wendy filled the void after Lynne's departure very nicely! We had Andy trivia just before we ran Soundstage and gave away boxes of Quisp cereal.

Any new things mentioned....new revelations?

No, no new things mentioned. Lynne spoke of the genesis of the whole Soundstage thing, and Little Wendy told the story of how she first met Andy.

Happy New Year!
I wish all the best this new year for all CAKS members and Andy Kaufman fans world-wide! And let me take this time to thank all of you who have supported and expressed your thanks for the ongoing projects of CAKS. You're welcome!

Happily,

New CAKS Forums!
As many of you already know the "EzBoard" forums we've had have slowly become a mess due to the increased use of pop-up ads, slow download time, and what seems to be an increase in general hiccups with the system. CAKS members complained of computers freezing up and others, including myself, found that the assigned color scheme of the forums did not always appear. Recently, posts have disappeared...only to return a few days later. CAKS deserves better, and so about 2 months ago, I entered a quest to find a new home for our forums. It was decided that the website and forums would all be housed under one web host and that software would be acquired to implement the new forums. In due time, all was achieved. The process of moving whole strings of CAKS conversation from the old forums took longer than expected as well as the frequently frustrating task of modifying the software to accomodate our needs. The new forums are actually 8 message boards under one forum. Registration is required to post/respond in the new forum. There are many new and exciting advantages to the new forum, and I implore you to check them out and enjoy the new digs! Just click on the graphic below!

It should be noted that, for the time being, the old Cesspool Spectacular Forum will remain in its same location and will not be a part of the new forum. In addition, the other old forums (Research and Studies, Egghead Lite, and Non-Andy) are all but closed at this time and will be removed from the system in the near future.

New CAKS Domain
About a month ago, CAKS moved into a new home with it's very own domain. Obviously, if you're reading this, you're already there. CAKS is now roughly 2 years old.
